1. Our promise to each other
Most people here are caring for someone with dementia, grieving, exhausted, or all three. We assume good faith, lead with compassion, and remember there is a real, tired human on the other side of every post.
2. Be kind and respectful
- Treat others the way you'd want to be treated on your hardest day.
- Disagree gently. It's fine to share a different experience; it's not fine to attack the person.
- Respect differences in background, beliefs, family situation, and care choices.
- Use the language guidelines we model — person-first, dignity-centered descriptions of people living with dementia.
3. Protect privacy — yours and others'
- Don't share identifiable private or medical information about another person — including your loved one — in a way they would not consent to. Many members write about loved ones who cannot consent; share with care and only what you're comfortable making semi-public.
- Don't post others' contact details, photos, or messages without permission.
- Remember that what you post may be seen by other members. Don't share anything you'd be uncomfortable having read aloud.
4. Support, don't prescribe
5. What's not allowed
To keep everyone safe, do not:
- Harass, bully, threaten, demean, or abuse other members or staff.
- Use hate speech or attack people based on race, ethnicity, religion, age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, or similar characteristics.
- Share content that is unlawful, infringing, sexually explicit, graphically violent, or otherwise harmful.
- Promote self-harm, suicide, or harm to a person in someone's care, or encourage neglect or abuse.
- Spam, advertise, solicit, recruit, or sell — including unapproved products, services, fundraisers, or "miracle" cures.
- Impersonate anyone, misrepresent your identity or credentials, or post on behalf of someone without their consent.
- Scrape, data-mine, or republish members' posts outside the community without permission.
6. Safety & crisis situations
If you see a post suggesting someone may be in danger, or that a person is being harmed, abused, or neglected, please report it to us right away (Section 7) and, if there is immediate danger, contact emergency services. Our team follows an internal crisis and escalation protocol when these situations are reported.
7. Reporting & how we moderate
If something breaks these guidelines or worries you, use the report tools where available or email anthony@daytodaydementia.com. Reports are reviewed by our team. We may remove content, edit where appropriate, or contact those involved. We try to be fair, but we prioritize member safety over any single post.
8. Consequences
Depending on the situation, we may issue a warning, remove content, limit features, or suspend or permanently remove an account, as described in our Terms of Service. Serious or repeated violations — especially anything threatening safety — can lead to immediate removal without warning. If you believe we made a mistake, you can ask us to review the decision by emailing us.
9. A note for anonymous spaces
Some parts of the community may allow anonymous or pseudonymous posting so people can speak freely. Anonymity is a privilege that depends on using it responsibly — these guidelines still fully apply, and you remain responsible for your conduct and content.
